Ministry

Ministry has never been a chapter set apart from the rest of my life — it’s the current that has run underneath all of it. I was commissioned to preach in my twenties and ordained in my thirties, and I’ve served bi-vocationally ever since.

Where things stand

Since retiring as Senior Pastor of The Church at the Rock, my health has significantly limited what I am able to take on. I continue in ministry as I am able — chiefly through writing — most recently Unveiling Christ’s Finished Work — and through the ongoing development of the Bible study.

An ECO (Evangelical Covenant Order of Presbyterians) congregation in its early years. It was essentially a startup, and I was asked to help launch it. The plan from the beginning was to hand it to a younger shepherd — and in January 2019 we installed Rev. Devin Tasker to lead the next season. He’ll serve them well.

Associate Pastor, West Ridge Christian Community

A primary role in planting the church, along with leadership training and development, adult education, teaching, and running sound — the same overlap of ministry and music that has followed me everywhere.

Worship & sound ministry

Before all of that, I served church sound and worship teams — Director of the Sound Team at North Way Christian Community, and coordinator of the Northeast Regional Worship Symposium under the International Worship Conference (1987 and 1988).

Writing that grew out of ministry

In 2026 I published Unveiling Christ’s Finished Work, a study of the Book of Revelation. It grew from a twelve-week class I taught at The Church at the Rock, and from a study of Revelation that began for me in 1971 under the teaching of Malcolm Smith. It reads John’s vision not as an end-times timeline but as the unveiling of the finished work of the Lamb. About the book →

In 2010 I published Longing for Eden — a book about God’s original intention for us, our brokenness, and the way back toward wholeness. With the band that took its name, it grew into a weekend seminar offering hope and healing for that journey. longingforeden.com
